Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 720

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)'s (Zuhr) prayer in summer was (when the shadow was) three feet, and in winter from five to seven feet.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, since he used its narrators as evidence, but it was not recorded.

Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (400) recorded it through Uthman bin Abi Shaybah with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (1504) recorded it through Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Adhrami, from Ubaydah bin Humayd, with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: The meaning of "the measure of the prayer is three feet" is that the Zuhr prayer is delayed after the zawal (the sun passing its zenith) to the extent that an increase of three feet appears in a person's shadow. For further explanation, see the annotation on "Sunan Abi Dawud".
