حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله بن دينار العَدْل، حدثنا السَّرِيُّ بن خُزيمة، حدثنا موسى بن إسماعيل، حدثنا حمّاد بن سَلَمة، أخبرنا عاصم بن بَهْدلة، عن يزيد بن شَرِيك: أنَّ الضَّحّاك بن قيس بَعَثَ معه بكِسْوة إلى مروان بن الحَكَم، فقال مروان للبوَّاب: انظُرْ من بالباب، قال: أبو هريرة، فأَذِن له، فقال: يا أبا هريرة، حدَّثْنا شيئًا سمعتَه من رسول الله ﷺ قال: سمعتُ رسول الله ﷺ يقول: "لَيُوشِكُ رجلٌ أن يَتمنَّى أنه خَرَّ من الثُّريّا ولم يَلِ من أمر النَّاس شيئًا" (1). صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Yazid bin Sharik that Sayyiduna al-Dahhak bin Qays sent him with clothing to Marwan bin al-Hakam. Marwan asked the doorkeeper: Who is at the door? He said: Abu Hurayrah. So he informed Marwan, and he gave permission. Marwan said: O Abu Hurayrah! Narrate to us some hadith that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Soon a time will come when a man will wish that he had fallen down from the Pleiades (al-Thurayya) rather than having taken responsibility (rule) for any affair of the people."
This hadith is sahih al-isnad (authentic in its chain), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) حديث حسن، يزيد بن شريك وقع منسوبًا عند أحمد في الرواية (10927) عامريًا، وجاء عنده أيضًا في الرواية: (8901): عن رجل من بني غاضرة، وبنو غاضرة هم من بني عامر، ويزيد هذا لم نقف له على ترجمة، وفي طبقته يزيد بن شريك بن طارق التَّيمي والد إبراهيم التيمي، وهو ثقة معروف. هذا، وللحديث طريق آخر، يتقوَّى به، وهو الآتي عقبَ هذا الحديث عند المصنِّف.
Grading: This is a 'hasan' hadith.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Yazid bin Sharik' is called 'al-Amiri' in Imam Ahmad's narration (10927), while in another place (8901) it is narrated from 'a man of Banu Ghadirah' (Banu Ghadirah are a branch of Banu Amir). We could not find a biography of this Yazid bin Sharik. Of the same generation is another, 'Yazid bin Sharik bin Tariq al-Taymi' (the father of Ibrahim al-Taymi), who is a well-known thiqah.
Important point: This hadith has another route that strengthens it, which comes after it with the author.
وأخرجه أحمد 16 / (10737) عن عبد الصمد، عن حماد بن سلمة، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (16/10737) narrated it via Abd al-Samad from Hammad bin Salamah with this same chain.
وأخرجه أحمد 14 / (8901) من طريق أبي بكر بن عياش، و 16/ (10927) من طريق شيبان ابن عبد الرحمن النحوي، كلاهما عن عاصم بن بهدلة، به.
