It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Woe to the umara' (rulers), the 'urafa' (overseers) and the trustees! On the Day of Resurrection some people will wish that their forelocks had been tied to the Pleiades (al-Thurayya) and that they were dangling between the heaven and the earth, rather than having taken responsibility for any office or task."
This hadith is sahih al-isnad (authentic in its chain), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In our manuscripts this name has been distorted and written as 'Imad' (whereas the actual name is 'Abbad').
Grading: Its chain is 'hasan'. Technical note / Defect ('illah): A group narrated from Abbad bin Abi Ali; he is one of the narrators of "al-Tahdhib", and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat" (5/143). 'Hisham' (the father of Mu'adh) is Hisham al-Dastuwa'i, and 'Abu Hazim' is the freed slave of Abu Ruhm al-Ghifari, as stated explicitly in Ibn Hibban. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (14/8627 and 16/10759) narrated it through various routes from Hisham al-Dastuwa'i with this same chain. Reference / Source: Imam Ibn Hibban (4483) narrated it with similar meaning via Hisham bin Hassan from Abu Hazim, the freed slave of Abu Ruhm, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him).
