حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله الزاهد الأصبهاني، حدثنا أحمد بن مَهدي بن رُستُم، حدثنا أبو بدر شُجاع بن الوليد، حدثنا قابوسُ بن أبي ظَبْيان، عن أبيه، عن سلمان قال: قال لي رسول الله ﷺ: "يا سلمان، لا تُبغِضُني فتُفارِقَ دينَك" فقلت: يا رسولَ الله، وكيف أُبغِضُك وبكَ هداني اللهُ ﷿؟ قال: "تُبغِضُ العربَ فتُبغِضُني (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Salman! Do not hate me, or you will part from your religion." I said: O Messenger of Allah! How could I hate you when it is through you that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has guided me? He said: "If you hate the Arabs, you will hate me."
This hadith is sahih al-isnad (authentic in its chain), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) إسناده ضعيف لضعف قابوس بن أبي ظبيان، ولانقطاعة بين أبي ظبيان - واسمه حصين بن جندب - وبين سلمان الفارسي. وقال الذهبي في "التلخيص": قابوس تُكلِّم فيه.
Grading: (1) Its chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason for its weakness is the weakness of 'Qabus bin Abi Zabyan', and that the chain is munqati' (broken) between Abu Zabyan (Husayn bin Jundub) and Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him). Imam al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis" that Qabus has been criticised.
وأخرجه أحمد 39 / (23731)، والترمذي (3927) من طرق عن شجاع بن الوليد، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (39/23731) and Imam al-Tirmidhi (3927) narrated it through various routes from Shuja' bin al-Walid with this same chain.
وقال الترمذي: حسن غريب لا نعرفه إلَّا من حديث أبي بدر شجاع بن الوليد، وسمعت محمد بن إسماعيل يقول: أبو ظبيان لم يُدرك سلمان، مات سلمان قبل علي.
Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that this hadith is 'hasan gharib'; we know it only from the narration of Abu Badr Shuja' bin al-Walid.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Tirmidhi says: I heard Muhammad bin Isma'il (Imam al-Bukhari) say that Abu Zabyan (Husayn bin Jundub) did not meet Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him), because Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) died before Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) (i.e. before his caliphate or his era).
