Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says concerning this statement of Allah Almighty, "You are the best nation brought forth for mankind": (You are the best nation because) you bring people bound in chains until you bring them into Islam.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari (4557) and Imam al-Nasa'i (11005) narrated it via Muhammad bin Yusuf and Abu Dawud al-Hafari, through the chain of Sufyan al-Thawri (Sufyan bin Sa'id al-Thawri). Note / Clarification: Imam al-Hakim's inclusion of it in the Mustadrak is an "oversight" (dhuhul) on his part, since it is already in al-Bukhari. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (8013), al-Bukhari (3010), Abu Dawud (2677) and Ibn Hibban (134) narrated it through the chain of Muhammad bin Ziyad from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) as marfu': "Allah marvels (with pleasure) at a people who will enter Paradise in chains." Note / Clarification: Imam Ibn Hibban says in explanation of this report: What is meant by this hadith is the captives whom the Muslims take captive from the land of polytheism, bound in chains and led into the lands of Islam; then they accept Islam and (for that reason) enter Paradise.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscripts (M) and (S), the word "fadl" is written here.
