Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7162

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard three things from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about Banu Tamim, after which I will never hold hatred for them: Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) had a vow to free a slave from the descendants of Isma'il. Some captives of Banu al-Anbar were brought, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "If you wish to fulfill your vow, then free one of these." Thus he (peace and blessings be upon him) counted them among the descendants of Isma'il. And (once) the camels of the charity of Banu Sa'd were brought; when he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them, they pleased him greatly, and he said: "These are the camels of my people." Thus he (peace and blessings be upon him) counted them as his own people. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "They are the fiercest of people in fighting in the trials and great battles (malahim)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The text between the square brackets had dropped out of the manuscripts; this is a well-known chain that recurs frequently with the author (al-Hakim).

Technical note / Defect ('illah): Our manuscripts have "qawmi", but we have established the text according to the Mahmudiyyah manuscript (as in the al-Mayman edition), which agrees with the other sources.

Grading: This hadith is "sahih", and this chain is "hasan" because of Maslamah bin Alqamah al-Mazini.
Reference / Source: It was narrated in abridged form by Muslim (2525) with the chain Hamid bin Umar al-Bakrawi, from Maslamah bin Alqamah al-Mazini, with this chain.
Reference / Source: It was narrated in similar form by Ahmad 15/ (9068), al-Bukhari (2543, 4366), Muslim (2525) and Ibn Hibban (6808) with the chain Abu Zur'ah, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: I have always loved Banu Tamim since (hearing) three things that I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about them: 1. "They are the fiercest of my ummah against the Dajjal." 2. When their charity arrived, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the charity of our people." 3. Aishah had a captive woman from them, and he said: "Set her free, for she is of the descendants of Isma'il (peace be upon him)."

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscripts (Z) and (B) the word here is "fada'il".
