Mustadrak al-Hakim 7145 — The virtues of the Ansar

أخبرنا أحمد بن جعفر القَطِيعي، حدَّثنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل، حدثني أبي، حدَّثنا عبد الرحمن - وهو ابن مَهْدي - حدَّثنا زهير بن محمد، عن عبد الله بن محمد بن عَقِيل، عن الطُّفيل بن أبي بن كعب، عن أبيه قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "إذا كانَ يومُ القيامة كنتُ إمامَ النبيِّين وخطيبَهم وصاحبَ شفاعتِهم غيرَ فَخْرٍ" (2).

Al-Tufayl bin Ubayy bin Ka'b narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b, may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the Day of Resurrection comes, I will be the leader (imam) of all the prophets, their spokesman and the one who intercedes for them, and I do not say this out of pride."

ثم سمعتُ رسولَ الله ﷺ يقول: "لولا الهجرةُ كنتُ امْرَأً من الأنصار، ولو سَلَكتِ الأنصارُ واديًا أو شِعبًا لكنتُ مع الأنصار" (3).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه بهذه السِّياقة (1).

Then I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Were it not for the (virtue of) emigration, I would have liked to be one of the Ansar. And if the Ansar were to travel through a valley or a mountain pass, I would take the mountain pass of the Ansar."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it with this wording.

Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is "hasan" in corroborations and supporting reports because of Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil.
Note / Clarification: It has already appeared under numbers (241) and (242).
