Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 714

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told them that Jibril (peace be upon him) came to him and led him in the prayers at two times each, except Maghrib. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He came to me and led me in prayer when the sun set; then the next day he came at the same time, when the sun set, and made no change in it."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it; there are supporting narrations for it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is hasan on the strength of the supporting reports that come after it, and its chain is also fit to be graded hasan.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Umar bin Abd al-Rahman bin Usayd in the chain (Usayd being the son of Zayd bin Umar bin al-Khattab) has been narrated from by three thiqah (trustworthy) narrators, and no criticism or authentication of him is reported from anyone.
Important point: The mention of "Muhammad bin Abbad bin Ja'far al-Mu'adhdhin" in the chain is an error by the author (al-Hakim) or his shaykh; the correct version is that this is the narration of Umar bin Abd al-Rahman, which he transmitted from "Muhammad bin Ammar bin Sa'd al-Mu'adhdhin".
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "al-Sunan" 1/369 through the author (al-Hakim) with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In al-Bayhaqi's narration it reads "Umar bin Abd al-Rahman bin Usayd from Muhammad" (i.e., Muhammad's full name is not given), and then al-Bayhaqi himself clarified that "Muhammad" here refers to Muhammad bin Ammar bin Sa'd al-Mu'adhdhin.
Reference / Source: Al-Daraqutni (1028) recorded it through al-Qadi Abu Umar, from al-Abbas bin Muhammad al-Duri, and in it the name is explicitly given as "Muhammad bin Ammar bin Sa'd al-Mu'adhdhin".
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari mentioned this hadith in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" 1/185, in the biography of Muhammad bin Ammar bin Sa'd al-Mu'adhdhin.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): Rather, the two shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim) did narrate from this narrator; what they did not do is narrate from Muhammad bin Ammar bin Sa'd al-Mu'adhdhin, who is the one narrating this hadith from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him).
