It is narrated from Sayyidah Hamnah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Beware! This world is indeed sweet and green, and many who wrongfully meddle with the wealth of Allah and His Messenger will have nothing but the Fire on the Day of Resurrection."

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The preposition "min" is not found in manuscripts (M) and (S); it has been included from manuscripts (Z) and (B). Ibn al-Athir explained in "al-Nihayah" that the original meaning of "takhawwud" is walking in water; it then came to be used in the sense of getting involved in a matter or disposing of it. That is, disposing of Allah's wealth in a way that is contrary to Allah's pleasure, or acquiring wealth by unlawful means.

Grading: This chain is weak because of Ahmad bin al-Faraj, since he is alone in narrating it with this chain; moreover, Sa'id al-Maqburi's hearing from Hamnah is not established.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Several narrators narrated it through al-Layth bin Sa'd, from Sa'id al-Maqburi, from 'Ubayd Abu al-Walid, that Khawlah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "This wealth is green and sweet; whoever acquires it rightfully will be blessed in it, and many a one who plunges as he pleases into the wealth of Allah and His Messenger will have nothing on the Day of Resurrection but the Fire."
Reference / Source: Ahmad 45/ (27124) and al-Tirmidhi (2374, who declared it sahih) narrated it, and this hadith is "sahih" by virtue of its other route (Ahmad 27318, al-Bukhari 3118).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Dawud al-'Attar narrated it, in Abu Ya'la (6606) and Ibn Abi 'Asim (151), with the chain Isma'il bin Umayyah, from Sa'id bin Abi Sa'id, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, but he erred (wahm) here (the chain is not correct).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Dawud al-'Attar also narrated it in Imam al-Tahawi's work but did not mention Abu Sa'id; since Dawud was prone to errors, Abu Zur'ah al-Razi ('Ilal al-Razi 616) declared it wrong, saying that the correct chain is "Sa'id al-Maqburi, from 'Ubayd Sanuta Abu al-Walid, from Khawlah bint Qays". Imam al-Daraqutni also declared it an error (al-'Ilal 2071).
