(2). It is narrated from Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a rope tied between two pillars in the mosque and asked: "What is this rope?" It was said: O Messenger of Allah! Hamnah bint Jahsh prays, and when she gets tired she supports herself with this rope. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let her pray as long as she has the strength, and when she gets tired, let her sit down."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the original manuscripts the (word) is thus, while in the narration of Musnad Ahmad the words are "li-tusalli" (so that she may pray), according to the common usage (al-jaddah).
Grading: This hadith is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although all the narrators of this chain are thiqah, this chain is "mursal"; however, in the next hadith it comes with a "mawsul" (connected) chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hammad bin Salamah erred (wahm) in the name of the woman who was praying; the correct name is "Zaynab bint Jahsh", as will be explained in the next hadith. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it at 20/ (12915) through 'Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi and at 21/ (13690) through 'Affan bin Muslim, and both of them narrate it from Hammad bin Salamah with this same chain. Details of the narration: In this chapter there is a narration from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in Sahih al-Bukhari (1151) and Sahih Muslim (785): A woman of Banu Asad was sitting with me when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came in and asked: "Who is this?" I said: This is so-and-so, who does not sleep at night (and mentioned how much she prays). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stop! You are obliged only with as many deeds as you are able to do, for Allah does not grow weary (of rewarding) until you grow weary (of worship)."
