Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) It is thus in manuscripts (Z) and (B), while in manuscripts (M) and (S) the words are "و يحب الانصار" (and he loves the Ansar). However, in "Musnad Ahmad" and other books of hadith the original words are: "And he does not believe in Allah who does not believe in me, and he does not believe in me (fully) who does not love the Ansar."
Grading: (2) Its chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason for its weakness is Abu Thifal al-Murri, whose name is "Thumamah bin Wa'il bin Husayn", while 'Ubaydullah bin Sa'id bin Kathir, although weak, is corroborated here.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it at 45/ (27146) via Yunus bin Muhammad, from Abu Ma'shar, from 'Abd al-Rahman bin Harmalah, from Abu Thifal al-Murri, who narrates from Rabah bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Huwaytib, from his grandmother, who narrates from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): A group of the students of Ibn Harmalah contradicted Abu Ma'shar. Thus Ahmad (27/ 16651, 38/ 23236, 45/ 27145) narrated it via Hafs bin Maysarah, Ahmad (45/ 27147) via Wuhayb bin Khalid, and al-Tirmidhi (25) via Bishr bin al-Mufaddal. All three narrate it via 'Abd al-Rahman bin Harmalah, from Abu Thifal, from Rabah bin 'Abd al-Rahman, from his grandmother, that she heard her father Sa'id bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him); so these hadith scholars made it part of the Musnad of Sa'id bin Zayd.
Reference / Source: Likewise Abdullah bin Ahmad (27/ 16652) narrated it via Yazid bin 'Iyad, from Abu Thifal, with this same chain.
Important point: He too included this narration in the Musnad of Sa'id bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him).
Note / Clarification: For its further takhrij and the scholarly discussion of it, see "Musnad Ahmad" (edited by al-Arna'ut and others).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In this chapter there are also narrations from Abu Hurayrah, Abu Sa'id al-Khudri and Sahl bin Sa'd al-Sa'idi, which have passed earlier with the author at hadith nos. (519), (521) and (994), and all of them are weak.
