أخبرناه الحسن بن محمد بن إسحاق الإسفراييني، حدثنا محمد بن أحمد بن البَرَاء، حدثنا عبد المنعم بن إدريس، حدثني أبي، عن وهب بن منبه، عن أبي هريرة قال: دخلتُ على رُقيَّةَ بنتِ رسول الله ﷺ وبيدها مشط، فقالت: خرج رسول الله ﷺ من عندي آنفا، فرجلتُ رأسه، فقال لي: "كيف تجدين عثمان؟ " قالت: فقلتُ: بخير (1)، قال: "أكرِميه؛ فإنَّه من أشبه أصحابي بي خُلقًا" (2). قال الحاكم رحمه الله تعالى: فإني (3) أتوهم أو لا أشكُّ أنَّ أبا هريرة ﵀ روى هذا الحديث عن متقدِّمٍ من الصحابة: أنه دخل على رقيَّةَ ﵂، لكني قد طلبته جهدي فلم أجده في الوقت.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I visited Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and she had a comb in her hand. She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has just left me; I combed his blessed hair, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me: "How do you find Uthman?" I said: Well. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Honour him, for among my Companions he is the one who most resembles me in character."
Imam al-Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I suppose, indeed I am certain, that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith from one of the earlier Companions who had visited Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), but although I searched hard, I could not find that (chain) at this time.
Imam al-Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I suppose, indeed I am certain, that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith from one of the earlier Companions who had visited Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), but although I searched hard, I could not find that (chain) at this time.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): Manuscripts (Z), (M) and (B) have the word "ka-khayr", while we have established the correct text from manuscript (S).
(2) إسناده تالف، عبد المنعم بن إدريس - وهو اليماني - متهم بالكذب كما في "لسان الميزان" 5/ 279، وأبوه إدريس - وهو من رجال "التهذيب" - ضعيف، وتركه الدَّارَقُطْنيّ.
Grading: Its chain is "talif" (ruined).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Abd al-Mun'im bin Idris (al-Yamani) is "muttaham bi al-kadhib" (accused of lying) (as in Lisan al-Mizan 5/279), and his father Idris (who is among the narrators of al-Tahdhib) is "weak", and al-Daraqutni abandoned him.
(3) المثبت من (ز)، وفي (م) و (ص): كأني، وسقطت من (ب).
