Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this word was corrupted into "al-Raqqi".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this was corrupted into "al-Suri", and manuscript (Z) marked it with a "dabbah" (sign of doubt).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this name was corrupted into "Yazid".
Grading: The chain of this narration is "wahin" (very feeble).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The views of the hadith critics on the narrator Jamil bin Zayd al-Ta'i are: Yahya bin Ma'in and al-Nasa'i said: "He is not thiqah." Abu Hatim said: "He is da'if al-hadith (weak in hadith)." Ibn Hibban in "al-Thiqat" (6/ 147) called him "wahin". Al-Daraqutni said: "He narrated little and is matruk (abandoned)", and once said: "He may be considered (for corroboration)." Al-Bukhari said: "His hadith is not sound." Al-Baghawi said in his Mu'jam (as quoted in his biography in "Lisan al-Mizan" 2/ 488): "He is very weak in hadith, and the idtirab (inconsistency) in the hadith of the Ghifari woman comes from him."
Note / Clarification: We say: he was inconsistent in this hadith in several ways, as is explained in "Musnad Ahmad".
Important point: Al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi said in "Talkhis al-Mustadrak" that Ibn Ma'in called Zayd (bin Ka'b) "not thiqah".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar followed up on al-Dhahabi in the biography of Zayd bin Ka'b bin 'Ujrah in "al-Lisan" (3/ 561), saying: "So he said! But Ibn Ma'in said that not about Zayd but about the narrator from him, 'Jamil bin Zayd'" (this has passed in his biography). There is also much disagreement from him (Jamil) about the chain, part of which has passed.
Reference / Source: This narration was recorded by Sa'id bin Mansur in his "Sunan" (829) and al-Tahawi in "Sharh Mushkil al-Athar" (647).
Details of the narration: This narration is by way of Abu Mu'awiyah al-Darir, from Jamil bin Zayd al-Ta'i, from Zayd bin Ka'b bin 'Ujrah, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married …" and then he mentioned the whole hadith. This route does not contain "from his father" (i.e. from his father Ka'b). For further study, see Ibn Abi Hatim's "al-'Ilal" (1274).
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (25/ 16032) narrated it by way of al-Qasim bin Malik al-Muzani, from Jamil bin Zayd.
Details of the narration: Jamil bin Zayd said: "I kept company with an elder of the Ansar who was mentioned as having been a Companion; he was called Ka'b bin Zayd or Zayd bin Ka'b. He told me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married a woman from Banu Ghifar. When he went in to her, put down his garment and sat on the bed, he saw whiteness (leprosy/a white patch) on her flank. He moved away from the bed and said: 'Put your clothes on', and he took back nothing of what he had given her."
Note / Clarification: See the rest of its takhrij and the discussion of it there.
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Abd al-Barr wrote in "al-Isti'ab" (p. 921), in the biography of 'Amrah bint Yazid bin al-Jawn al-Kilabiyyah:
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It is said about her name: "'Amrah bint Yazid bin 'Ubayd bin Ruwas bin Kilab al-Kilabiyyah", and this is more correct. It is narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married her, then news reached him that she had leprosy (baras), so he divorced her without consummating the marriage.
Details of the narration: It is also said that she is the woman whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married, and when she was brought in to him she sought refuge (with Allah) from him. He said: "You have sought refuge with a great Refuge", so he divorced her and ordered Usamah bin Zayd to give her a gift of three garments (as a divorce gift) and send her off. 'Abd Allah bin al-Qasim narrated it thus from Hisham bin 'Urwah, from his father, from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu 'Ubaydah said: "That (incident of seeking refuge) was actually with Asma' bint al-Nu'man bin al-Jawn." Whereas Qatadah said: "He said that about a woman from Banu Sulaym." In short, there is much disagreement over the identity of this woman, as we mentioned in "the chapter of Asma'" and elsewhere.
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Abd al-Barr quoted in the biography of Asma' bint al-Nu'man (p. 871) that Ibn Wahb mentioned from Yunus, from Ibn Shihab (al-Zuhri), who said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) separated from the woman (sister) of Banu al-Jawn because of a whiteness (leprosy) she had." And Allah knows best.
