Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6966

It is narrated from Yazid bin al-Asamm, the nephew (sister's son) of Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), that he said: I and the son of Talhah bin Ubaydullah (who was the nephew of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her)) met Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) as she was coming from Makkah. We had gone into one of the orchards of Madinah and eaten some fruit from it. When this reached her, she turned to her nephew, reproaching and scolding him; then she turned to me and gave me an eloquent admonition, and said: "Do you not know that Allah Almighty drew you along until He placed you among the household of His Prophet? By Allah, Maymunah has gone, and now your rope has been thrown over your back (that is, now you have no one watching over you). Indeed, she was the most God-fearing of us all towards Allah and the most diligent of us in upholding the ties of kinship (being good to relatives)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih", as al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in "al-Isabah" (8/ 128).
Important point: Al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi says in "al-Talkhis": This contains evidence that Maymunah died before 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with them both), so the view of those who say she died in the year 61 AH (after 'A'ishah) is invalid.

Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir (65/ 126) narrated it by way of Muhammad bin Sulayman al-Harrani from Ja'far bin Burqan. And Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi narrated it in brief in his "Tarikh" (p. 495) by way of Maymun bin Mihran from Yazid bin al-Asamm, that he heard 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) say: "Maymunah was the most God-fearing of us and the best of us in maintaining ties of kinship." Abu Zur'ah said after it: 'A'ishah's saying "Maymunah was" (in the past tense) shows that Maymunah died before her; she and Hafsah both died before 'A'ishah.
