Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6958

Bukayr bin Ahmad al-Sufi narrated to me in Makkah in his own handwriting; he said: Al-Hasan bin Ali al-Ma'mari narrated to us; he said: Abu Thawr Ibrahim bin Khalid al-Kalbi informed us; he said: Abu Qatan informed us; he said: Shu'bah said to me: Mis'ar bin Kidam said to me: "Maymunah bint al-Harith, the wife of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), is my grandmother," and I have not told this to anyone before you. She is Maymunah bint al-Harith bin Hazn bin Bujayr bin al-Huzam bin Ruwaybah bin Abdullah bin Hilal bin Amir bin Sa'sa'ah, and her mother was Hind bint Awf bin Zuhayr bin al-Harith bin Hamatah bin Jurash, who belonged to the tribe of Himyar.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this word was corrupted into "haddathatni" (the feminine form); it has been corrected from the source of the takhrij.
Reference / Source: Abu Bakr al-Bazzaz narrated it in "Hadith Shu'bah" (103) from 'Abd Allah bin Ahmad, who said: I was informed from Abu Qatan, with this same chain.
Important point: The lineage of (the narrator) Mis'ar meets the lineage of the Mother of the Believers Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) at Hilal bin 'Amir bin Sa'sa'ah; this (family relation) is what he means by calling her his "grandmother".
