أخبرنا دَعْلَج بن أحمد السِّجزي، حدثنا عبد العزيز بن معاوية البصري (2)، حدثنا شاذُّ بن فَيَّاض أبو عُبيدة، حدثنا هاشم بن سعيد، عن كنانة، عن صفية قالت: دخل علي رسول الله ﷺ وأنا أبكي، فقال: "يا بنتَ حُيَي، ما يُبكيكِ؟ " قلتُ: بلغني أنَّ حفصة وعائشة تنالان منِّي وتقولان: نحن خيرٌ منها، نحن بنات عم رسول الله ﷺ وأزواجه، قال: "ألا قلت لهم: كيف تكونان خيرًا مني وأبي هارونُ، وعمِّي موسى، وزوجي محمد؟! " صلوات الله عليهم (3). [ذكر أم المؤمنين ميمونة بنت الحارث ﵂]

It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I was weeping. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O daughter of Huyayy, what makes you weep?" I said: I have learned that Sayyidah Hafsah and Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with them both) make taunting remarks about me and say that they are better than me, because they are both cousins of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his wives. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not say to them: How can you two be better than me, when my father is Harun, my uncle is Musa, and my husband is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)?"

(2) تحرَّف في النسخ الخطية إلى: الصبري.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this word was corrupted into "al-Sabri".
(3) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد ضعيف من أجل هاشم بن سعيد الكوفي.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (authentic due to supporting evidence), while this chain is "da'if" because of Hashim bin Sa'id al-Kufi.
وأخرجه الترمذي (3892) من طريق عبد الصمد بن عبد الوارث، عن هاشم بن سعيد الكوفي، بهذا الإسناد. وقال غريب لا نعرفه من حديث صفية إلا من حديث هاشم الكوفي، وليس إسناده بذاك.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (3892) narrated it by way of 'Abd al-Samad bin 'Abd al-Warith from Hashim bin Sa'id al-Kufi, and said: It is "gharib"; we know it as a hadith of Safiyyah only through Hashim al-Kufi, and its chain is not that strong.
ويشهد له حديث أنس بن مالك عند أحمد 19/ (12392)، والترمذي (3894)، والنسائي (8870)، وابن حبان (7211)، قال: بلغ صفيةَ أنَّ حفصة قالت: إني ابنة يهودي، فبكت، فدخل عليها النَّبيّ ﷺ وهي تبكي، فقال: "ما شأنُكِ؟ " فقالت: قالت لي حفصة: إني ابنة يهودي، فقال النَّبيّ ﷺ: "إنك ابنة نبيٍّ، وإنَّ عمك لنبيٌّ، وإنك لتحت نبيّ، ففيم تفخر عليك؟! " ثم قال: "اتقي الله يا حفصة". وإسناده صحيح.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of Anas bin Malik in Musnad Ahmad (19/ 12392), al-Tirmidhi (3894), al-Nasa'i (8870) and Ibn Hibban (7211): News reached Safiyyah that Hafsah had called her "the daughter of a Jew", and she wept. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came in while she was weeping and asked: "What is the matter with you?" She told him that Hafsah had called her the daughter of a Jew. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are indeed the daughter of a prophet (Harun, peace be upon him), your uncle (Musa, peace be upon him) is a prophet, and you are married to a prophet (Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him); so in what can she boast over you?" Then he said: "Fear Allah, O Hafsah."
Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
