أخبرنا عبد الله بن إسحاق الخُراساني العَدْل، حدثنا يحيى بن جعفر بن الزبرقان، حدثنا عبد الوهاب بن عطاء، أخبرنا خالد الحذاء، عن كثير بن زيد، عن الوليد بن رباح، عن أبي هريرة قال: لما دخل رسول الله ﷺ بصفية بات أبو أيوب على باب النَّبيِّ ﷺ، فلما أصبح فرأى رسول الله ﷺ كبر، ومع أبي أيوبَ السَّيفُ، فقال: يا رسول الله، كانت جاريةً حديثة عهد بعرس، وكنت قتلت أباها وأخاها وزوجها، فلم آمَنْها عليكَ، فَضَحِكَ رسول الله ﷺ وقال له خيرًا (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spent his wedding night with Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) spent the night at the door of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), holding a sword and keeping guard. When morning came and he saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said Allahu Akbar, and he said: O Messenger of Allah, she was a young woman newly married, and you had killed her father, her brother and her husband, so I did not feel safe from her on your account. Hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed and spoke words of good about him.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) إسناده حسن في المتابعات والشواهد من أجل كثير بن زيد - وهو الأسلمي - ففيه بعض اللِّين.
Grading: This chain is "hasan" in corroborations and supporting reports, because it contains Kathir bin Zayd (al-Aslami), who has some "lin" (softness, i.e. slight weakness).
وأخرجه ابن سعد في "الطبقات" 10/ 122 - ومن طريقه الطبري في "تاريخه" 11/ 610، وابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 16/ 46 - عن الواقدي، عن كثير بن زيد بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd (10/ 122) — and by way of him al-Tabari (11/ 610) and Ibn 'Asakir (16/ 46) — narrated it from al-Waqidi, from Kathir bin Zayd, with this same chain.
وفي الباب عن ابن عبّاس عند ابن سعد 2/ 109، ومن طريقه أخرجه ابن عساكر 16/ 45، وفي إسناده محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى، وحديثه حسن في المتابعات والشواهد، وهذا منها.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a narration from Ibn 'Abbas in Ibn Sa'd (2/ 109) — by way of whom Ibn 'Asakir (16/ 45) also narrated it. Its chain contains Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla, whose hadith is "hasan" in corroborations and supporting reports, and this is one of them.
وعن عروة بن الزبير مرسلًا عند البيهقي في "الدلائل" 4/ 231 - 233، ومن طريقه ابن عساكر 16/ 46.
Reference / Source: And there is a "mursal" narration from 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr in al-Bayhaqi's "al-Dala'il" (4/ 231-233), and by way of him Ibn 'Asakir (16/ 46).
