Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6894

Hisham bin Urwah narrated from his father that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) sent one hundred thousand (dirhams) to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she distributed all of it until nothing of it remained. Sayyidah Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "You were fasting; how good it would have been if you had bought us even a dirham's worth of meat!" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Had I remembered, I would certainly have done so."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) This report is "sahih", but this present chain is utterly "da'if" on account of Muhammad bin Yunus (al-Kudaymi); however, it has been corroborated.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Asim in the chain is al-Dahhak bin Makhlad al-Nabil.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (2/ 47) and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (59/ 192) via Muhammad bin Bakr al-Bursani, from Hisham bin Hassan, with this chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Mu'awiyah al-Darir differed from Hisham bin Hassan (as in Ibn Sa'd, "al-Tabaqat": 10/ 66, and Hannad in "al-Zuhd": 619). He narrated it from Hisham bin Urwah, from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, from Umm Dharrah.
Details of the narration: Umm Dharrah - who used to visit Aishah - related that Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) sent Aishah wealth in two sacks (she said: I think it was one hundred and eighty thousand). She called for a platter - she was fasting that day - and began distributing the wealth among the people, until evening came and not a single dirham of it remained with her. When evening came she said: "O girl, bring my iftar." She brought her bread and olive oil. Umm Dharrah said to her: "Of what you distributed today, could you not have bought us meat for one dirham with which to break our fast?" She said: "Do not reproach me; had you reminded me, I would have done so."
Grading: Its narrators are thiqah, and Umm Dharrah is the Madinan woman, the freed slave of Aishah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hammad bin Zayd differed from both of them (Abu Nu'aym: 2/ 49); he narrated it from Hisham bin Urwah and mentioned it as "mursal".
