Book of Knowing the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them)
أَفْضَلُ الرِّجَالِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَفْضَلُ النِّسَاءِ عَائِشَةُ
The best of men is Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and the best of women is Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her)

أخبرنا عبد الله بن إسحاق بن إبراهيم العَدْل ببغداد، حَدَّثَنَا يحيى بن جعفر بن الزِّبْرقان، حَدَّثَنَا علي بن عاصم، أخبرنا بَيَان بن بِشر، قال لي عامرٌ الشَّعبي: أتاني رجلٌ فقال لي: كلُّ أُمَّهات المؤمنين أَحبُّ إليَّ من عائشةَ، قلتُ: أمّا أنت، فقد خالفتَ رسولَ الله ﷺ؛ كانت عائشةُ أحبَّهنَّ إليه (1).

It is narrated from Amir al-Sha'bi that he said: A man came to me and said: "All the Mothers of the Believers are more beloved to me than Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her)." I said: "As for you, you have gone against the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), for Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) was the most beloved of them all to him (peace and blessings be upon him)."

(1) خبر صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن في المتابعات والشواهد من أجل علي بن عاصم - وهو ابن صهيب - وقد توبع.
Grading: (1) This report is "sahih", and this chain is "hasan" in corroborating chains and supporting reports.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (This is) on account of Ali bin Asim (bin Suhayb) in the chain, and he has been corroborated.
وأخرجه الخرائطي في "اعتلال القلوب" (21) من طريق خالد بن عبد الله، والطبراني في "الكبير" (23/ 293) من طريق زائدة بن قدامة، كلاهما عن بيان بن بشر، به.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Kharaiti in "I'tilal al-Qulub" (21) via Khalid bin Abd Allah, and al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (23/ 293) via Za'idah bin Qudamah, both of them (Khalid and Za'idah) from Bayan bin Bishr, with the same chain.
