Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6887

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she came (to the Prophet) together with her parents, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Sayyidah Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with them both), and the two of them said: We would like you to make a supplication for Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that we can also hear. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "'Allahummaghfir li-Aishata binti Abi Bakrin al-Siddiqi maghfiratan wajibatan zahiratan batinah' (O Allah! Forgive Aishah bint Abi Bakr al-Siddiq with a forgiveness that is certain, outward and inward)." Her parents were amazed at this excellent supplication of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for her, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you both amazed? This is my supplication for everyone who bears witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah."

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) Its chain is da'if on account of "inqita'" (a break in the chain, a narrator missing).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Bakr bin Hafs (Abd Allah bin Hafs bin Umar al-Waqqasi) did not hear from Aishah, as Abu Hatim al-Razi stated explicitly. Al-Dhahabi wrote in "al-Talkhis" that despite its chain being apparently good, this narration is "munkar"!
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah (12/ 132) in abridged and mursal form from Ibn Numayr, from Musa al-Juhani, from Abu Bakr bin Hafs, that Umm Ruman (the mother of Aishah) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, make a supplication for Aishah that we can hear. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive Aishah the daughter of Abu Bakr with a forgiveness that is certain, outward and inward."
Reference / Source: It was narrated in mursal form by al-Isma'ili in his "Mu'jam" (183) via Abd al-Rahman al-Mas'udi, from Abd Allah bin Isa bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla, from Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla, who said: Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Umm Ruman came until they entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); then he mentioned it.
Grading: This chain is "da'if".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abd al-Rahman al-Mas'udi's memory deteriorated at the end of his life (ikhtilat), and Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi's narration from him is from after the ikhtilat. Moreover, Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla did not witness this incident, so it is "mursal".
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani also narrated it in mursal form in "al-Du'a'" (1458) via Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad bin An'um, from Muslim bin Yasar, that it reached him that the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); then he mentioned something similar.
Grading: This chain is weak because Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad is weak, and the narration is also "mursal".
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bazzar (Kashf al-Astar: 2658), Ibn Hibban (7111) and al-Lalaka'i in "Sharh Usul al-I'tiqad" (2756) via Urwah bin al-Zubayr, from Aishah, who said: When I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a good mood, I said: O Messenger of Allah, supplicate to Allah for me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive Aishah her past and later sins, what she concealed and what she disclosed." At this Aishah laughed so much that her head fell into her lap from laughing. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Does my supplication please you?" She said: And why would your supplication not please me?! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah, it is my supplication for my Ummah in every prayer."
Grading: Its chain can possibly be graded "hasan".
