Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6874

It is narrated from Dhakwan Abu Amr, the freed slave of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that a small chest containing jewels was brought to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) from Iraq. He asked his companions: "Do you know what its value is?" They said: No, and they did not know how to divide it. So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do you permit me to send it to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) because of the love of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for her?" They said: Yes. So he sent it to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). When she opened it, she said: "What conquests have been opened for Ibn al-Khattab after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! O Allah, do not keep me alive for his gift next year."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), provided that Dhakwan Abu Amr's hearing is established, but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In our handwritten manuscripts it is "biha", and what is established here is taken from the Mahmudiyyah manuscript, as in the al-Mayman edition.

Grading: (2) Its chain is "jayyid" (good), as Ibn Kathir said in "Musnad al-Faruq" 2/ 324.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, there has been disagreement over Zayd bin al-Hubab as to whether it is connected with mention of A'ishah or mursal without mention of her.
Reference / Source: Thus it was narrated by Yahya bin Abi Talib (as in this narration) and by Muhammad bin al-Ala' (with Abdullah in "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (58)), both from Zayd bin al-Hubab, with this same chain. Al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis": "There is irsal in it."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The two of them were contradicted by Ahmad bin Hanbal in "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (1642) and by Zuhayr bin Harb (with Abu Ya'la, as in "al-Matalib al-Aliyah" (2075) and (4369) - and through his route al-Diya' al-Maqdisi in "al-Mukhtarah" (1/ 147)); both of them (Ahmad and Zuhayr) narrated it from Zayd bin al-Hubab as connected (mawsul), with mention of A'ishah. However, the mention of A'ishah has dropped out of the second place in "al-Matalib"!
Note / Clarification: The narrator's word "durjan": it is like a small basket or box in which a woman keeps her light belongings and her perfume. Ibn al-Athir said this in "al-Nihayah" (root: d-r-j).
