It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away in my house, on my day and night (of turn), between my chest and my throat. (At the time of his passing) Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came in carrying a fresh tooth-stick (miswak) of arak wood. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at it, so I said: O Abd al-Rahman, cut it (to soften it) at this spot. He gave it to me, and I (chewed it and) evened it, and then gave it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) cleaned his teeth with it.
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In the handwritten manuscripts this name was distorted into "Abdullah", whereas in a copy noted on the margin of manuscript (Z) it is correctly written "Ubaydullah".
Note / Clarification: (2) In the handwritten manuscripts this name is distorted into "al-Harth".
Grading: (3) This hadith is sahih, while this chain is da'if (weak) because of "al-Harish bin al-Khirrit", although he is corroborated. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Abi Mulaykah: he is Abdullah bin Ubaydullah bin Abi Mulaykah. Reference / Source: It was narrated in full and in abridged form, in a similar way, by Ahmad 41/ (24774), al-Bukhari (3100), al-Nasa'i (7489), and Ibn Hibban (6616) through the route of Nafi' bin Umar, from Abdullah bin Abi Mulaykah. Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bukhari (4449) and (6510) through the route of Umar bin Sa'id al-Nawfali, from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, that Abu Amr Dhakwan (the freed slave of A'ishah) informed him that A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) used to say … (and he mentioned something similar); so he added "Dhakwan, the freed slave of A'ishah" to the chain. Note / Clarification: Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in "Fath al-Bari" 12/ 768: His words "Ibn Abi Mulaykah, that Dhakwan informed him that A'ishah" - it will come one hadith later from the narration of Ibn Abi Mulaykah from A'ishah without an intermediary; but each of the two routes contains something that is not in the other, so it appears that both routes are preserved (mahfuz). Details of the narration: This hadith has other routes, the takhrij of which will come under the next narration.
