Abu Ubayd al-Qasim bin Sallam (may Allah have mercy on him) states: It has been established and authenticated with us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married eighteen women in total: seven of them belonged to various clans of Quraysh, one was an ally of Quraysh, nine belonged to other Arab tribes, and one was from the Children of Israel, from the descendants of Harun bin Imran, the brother of Musa bin Imran. Abu Ubayd says: "The first of his pure wives whom he (peace and blessings be upon him) married was Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), in the Jahiliyyah; then, in the era of Islam, he married Sayyidah Sawdah bint Zam'ah in Makkah itself; then, two years before the Hijrah, he contracted marriage with Sayyidah Aishah; then, after arriving in Madinah, in the year 2 AH after the Battle of Badr, he married Sayyidah Umm Salamah; in the same year, 2 AH, he married Sayyidah Hafsah bint Umar, and these five wives were from Quraysh. Then in the year 3 AH he married Sayyidah Zaynab bint Jahsh; then in the year 5 AH he married Sayyidah Juwayriyah; then in the year 6 AH he married Sayyidah Umm Habibah bint Abi Sufyan; then in the year 7 AH he married Sayyidah Safiyyah bint Huyayy; after that Sayyidah Maymunah bint al-Harith, then Fatimah bint Shurayh, then Zaynab bint Khuzaymah, then Hind bint Yazid, then Asma' bint al-Nu'man, then Qutaylah bint Qays, the sister of al-Ash'ath, and then he married Asma' bint Sanah al-Sulamiyyah." Mention of the pure wives and other women from among the female Companions, of whom we begin first with al-Siddiqah bint al-Siddiq, Sayyidah Aishah bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In the handwritten manuscripts it is written "Asma' bint Sanah", which is an error; the correct form is "Sana bint Asma' bin al-Salt", as she will be mentioned under hadith number (6978), and the verification of her name will be discussed there.

(2) المثبت من (ز)، وفي بقية النسخ: ما.
Note / Clarification: (2) This text is established from manuscript (Z), whereas in the other manuscripts it is "ma".
