It is narrated from Masruq that he said: I went to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and a blind man was sitting there, and she was cutting citron for him and feeding it to him with honey. I asked: O Mother of the Believers! Who is this? She said: "This is Ibn Umm Maktum, concerning whom Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, reproached His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." She related that Ibn Umm Maktum came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while Utbah and Shaybah (chiefs of Quraysh) were sitting with him (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was attending to the two of them. Then these verses were revealed: "He frowned and turned away, because the blind man came to him" [Surah Abasa: 1-2], and the one meant by this is Ibn Umm Maktum.
