أخبرنا أبو العبّاس القاسم بن القاسم السيَّاري بمَرْو، حدثنا عبد الله ابن علي الغزَّال (2) [حدثنا علي بن الحسن بن شقيق] حدثنا عبد الله بن المبارك، أخبرني محمد بن أبي حفصة، عن الزُّهْري، عن الحُسين بن السائب بن (3) أبي لُبابة، عن أبيه قال: لما تاب الله على أبي لُبابة، قال أبو لُبابة: جئتُ رسولَ الله ﷺ فقلتُ: يا رسولَ الله، إني أهجُرُ دارَ قومي التي أصبتُ بها الذنبَ، وأنخلعُ من مالي صدقةً الله ﷿ ولرسولِه، فقال رسولُ الله ﷺ: "يا أبا لُبابة، يُجزِئُ عنك الثُّلثُ"، قال: فتصدقتُ بالثُّلث (4). ذكرُ أبي حَبَّة البَدْري ﵁-

Husayn bin al-Sa'ib, the grandson of Sayyiduna Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates from his father (al-Sa'ib), and he from his father (Sayyiduna Abu Lubabah), that when Allah Almighty accepted the repentance of Abu Lubabah, he said: O Messenger of Allah! I will leave the home of my people where I committed the sin, and I will give away all my wealth as charity for Allah and His Messenger. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Lubabah! A third (of your wealth, given in charity) will suffice for you." So I gave a third of my wealth in charity.

(2) تحرَّف في (م) و (ص) إلى: البراء، والمثبت من (ب)، وهو كذلك في بضعةَ عشرَ موضعًا عند المصنف. ومن هذه المواضع استدركنا ما بين المعقوفين، فإنَّ الغزال هذا لا يروي عند المصنف عن ابن المبارك إلا بواسطة ابن شقيق.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscripts (M) and (S) the name has been corrupted into "al-Bara'", whereas the correct name is the one in manuscript (B), and it is like this in more than ten places in the author's (al-Hakim's) book.
Note / Clarification: We have supplied the part in square brackets from those other places, because this 'Abd Allah al-Ghazzal, in the author's book, narrates from Ibn al-Mubarak only through Ibn Shaqiq.
(3) تحرَّف في النسخ الخطية إلى: عن.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts it has been corrupted here into the word "'an".
(4) حديث حسن إن شاء الله، وهذا إسناد ضعيف، عبد الله الغزال مجهول، ومحمد بن أبي حفصة ليس بالقوي، لكنهما، متابعان، واختلف فيه أيضًا على الزهري كما هو مبين في "مسند أحمد" 25/ (15750)، لكن مجموع الروايات عن الزهري تدل على أنه حمله عن بعض أهل بيت أبي لبابة، وانظر أيضًا تعليقنا على الحديث رقم (3319) من "سنن أبي داود". وأخرجه الطبراني في "الكبير" (4509) من طريق نعيم بن حماد، عن عبد الله بن المبارك، بهذا الإسناد.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan", if Allah wills. This chain is weak, because 'Abd Allah al-Ghazzal is majhul (unknown) and Muhammad bin Abi Hafsah is not strong, but both of them are corroborated.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is also a disagreement over al-Zuhri in it (as explained in Musnad Ahmad 25/ 15750), but all the narrations from al-Zuhri together show that he took it from some members of Abu Lubabah's household. See also our commentary on hadith number (3319) of "Sunan Abi Dawud".
Reference / Source: al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Kabir" (4509) via Nu'aym bin Hammad, from 'Abd Allah bin al-Mubarak, with this same chain.
وأخرجه البخاري في "التاريخ الكبير" أيضًا 2/ 386 من طريق سعيد بن يحيى بن صالح، عن ابن أبي حفصة، عن الزهري، عن الحسين بن السائب أو غيره، به.

وأخرجه أحمد 25/ (15750) و (16080) عن روح، عن ابن جريج، قال: أخبرني ابن شِهاب، أنَّ الحسين بن السائب بن أبي لبابة أخبر: أنَّ أبا لبابة بن عبد المنذر لما تاب الله عليه … فذكره. وانظر هناك تتمة ذكر طرقه.
