Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This narration is "sahih li-ghayrihi", but this chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The manuscripts have "Suwayd bin Sa'id" here, although no narration of Suwayd bin Sa'id from Qurrah bin 'Abd al-Rahman is known; rather, the one who narrates from Qurrah is "Suwayd bin 'Abd al-'Aziz" (as is clear from the narrations of others besides the author, given in the takhrij below). In any case, both Suwayds are weak, and their shaykh Qurrah is weak too. According to Imam al-Nasa'i, in his "Sunan" after hadith (2894), al-Zuhri did not hear from Mas'ud bin al-Hakam. Abu Zur'ah (as in Ibn Abi Hatim's "al-'Ilal" 681) said that what is correct in his view is al-Zuhri's narration in which he says: "I was informed from Mas'ud bin al-Hakam, from one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he saw 'Abd Allah bin Hudhafah" (i.e. there is an intermediary); Abu Hatim said something similar (as in "al-'Ilal" 746). There is also a disagreement over al-Zuhri in this narration, as explained in "Musnad Ahmad" (36/ 21950).
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi 'Asim in "al-Ahad wa-l-Mathani" (817), al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (544 and 8217) and Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (4070) transmitted it through various routes from Suwayd bin 'Abd al-'Aziz, from Qurrah bin 'Abd al-Rahman, with this same chain. al-Tabarani says that no one narrated this hadith from al-Zuhri except Qurrah, and Suwayd bin 'Abd al-'Aziz is alone in narrating it from him.
Reference / Source: Ma'mar narrated it in Musnad Ahmad (21950) and al-Nasa'i (2893), and Shu'ayb bin Abi Hamzah in al-Nasa'i (2894), both from al-Zuhri, from Mas'ud bin al-Hakam al-Ansari, from a man among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Reference / Source: Muhammad bin al-Walid al-Zubaydi narrated it in Sunan al-Nasa'i (2895) from al-Zuhri, that it reached him from Mas'ud (i.e. as a balagh).
Reference / Source: Imam Malik narrated in "al-Muwatta'" (1/ 376), and via him al-Nasa'i (2897), from al-Zuhri, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent 'Abd Allah bin Hudhafah during the days of Mina to go around announcing: "These are only days of eating, drinking and remembrance of Allah."
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (25/ 15735) and al-Nasa'i (2889) transmitted it via Sufyan al-Thawri, from 'Abd Allah bin Abi Bakr and Salim Abu al-Nadr, from Sulayman bin Yasar, from 'Abd Allah bin Hudhafah: that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to announce during the days of Tashriq: "They are days of eating and drinking."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sulayman bin Yasar did not meet 'Abd Allah bin Hudhafah (see "Marasil Ibn Abi Hatim" 293 and 294).
Note / Clarification: Other variations in the narrations from Mas'ud bin al-Hakam have already been mentioned under hadith numbers (1604) and (3025), and the report is authentically established from the hadith of 'Uqbah bin 'Amir that has passed at number (1602).
