Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6794

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Alqamah bin Mujazziz on an expedition. When we came near our destination, he gave permission to a group of the army (for a separate mission) and appointed Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hudhafah bin Qays al-Sahmi (may Allah be pleased with him) as their commander. He was one of the people of Badr and had a playful humour in his temperament; on some of the journeys of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) he would drive his (peace and blessings be upon him) she-camel in such a way as to make him (peace and blessings be upon him) laugh. He is the same person whom the Romans took captive in the time of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and tried to force into disbelief, but Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, kept him steadfast until Allah granted him deliverance from them.
