حَدَّثَنَا علي بن حَمْشاذَ، حَدَّثَنَا محمد بن عيسى بن السكن الواسطي، حَدَّثَنَا المثنَّى بن معاذ العَنبَري، حَدَّثَنَا معاذ بن هشام. وحدثنا أبو زكريا يحيى بن محمد العَنبَري، حَدَّثَنَا إبراهيم بن أبي طالب، حَدَّثَنَا إسحاق بن إبراهيم وعُبيد الله بن سعيد ومحمد بن المثنَّى ومحمد بن بشَّار وعباس العَنبَري وإسحاق بن منصور؛ قال إسحاق بن إبراهيم: أخبرنا، وقال الآخرون: حَدَّثَنَا معاذ بن هشام، حدَّثني أَبي، عن قَتَادة، عن عبد الله بن سَرجِس، أنَّ النَّبِيّ ﷺ قال: "لا يَبولَنَّ أحدُكم في الجُحْر، وإذا نمتُم فأَطْفِئُوا السَّراجَ، فإِنَّ الفأرةَ تأخذ الفَتِيلةَ فتَحرِقُ على أهل البيت، وأَوْكُوا الأسقيةَ، وخَمِّروا الشَّراب، وأَغلِقوا الأبوابَ". فقيل لقتادة: وما يُكرَه من البول في الجُحْر؟ فقال: إنها مساكن الجنِّ (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sarjis (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "None of you should ever urinate into a hole. When you go to sleep, put out the lamp, for the mouse takes the wick and sets the household on fire. Tie up the mouths of the waterskins, cover the drinks, and shut the doors." Qatadah was asked: Why is urinating into a hole disliked? He said: They are the dwelling places of the jinn.
This hadith is on the condition of Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim, because they used all its narrators as evidence, and Qatadah's hearing from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sarjis is established.

وأخرجه مختصرًا بقصة النهي عن البول في الجحر فقط وقول قتادة: أبو داود (29)، والنسائي (30) من طريقين عن معاذ بن هشام، به.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (29) and al-Nasa'i (30) narrated it through two different routes from Mu'adh bin Hisham, briefly mentioning only the prohibition of urinating into a hole (juhr) and the statement of Qatadah.
أوكُوا: من أوكيتَ الإناءَ؛ إذا شددتَ رأسه بالحبل.
Note / Clarification: The word 'awku' is derived from 'awkaytu al-ina'', meaning to tie the mouth of a vessel tightly with a rope or string.
وخمِّروا: من التخمير، بمعنى التغطية.
