ذِكْرُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ آبِي اللَّحْمِ ، وَذِكْرُ مَوَالِيهِ الَّذِينَ أَسْلَمُوا مَعَهُ رَضِيَ اللهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُمْ
Virtues of Abdullah bin Abd al-Malik Abi al-Lahm (may Allah be pleased with him), and his freed slaves who accepted Islam with him

حدثنا الشيخ أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا أبو مُسلم، حدثنا القَعْنَبي، حدثنا حاتم بن إسماعيل، عن يزيد بن أبي عبيد، قال: سمعتُ عميرًا مولى آبي اللَّحم يقول: أمرني مولاي أن أُقدِّدَ (3) له لحمًا، فجاءني مسكينٌ فأطعمتُه منه، فضربني مولاي، فأتيتُ رسولَ الله ﷺ فذكرتُ ذلك له، فدعاه فقال: "لِمَ ضربتَه؟ " فقال: يُطعِمُ طعامي من غير أن آمرَه، فقال رسولُ الله ﷺ: "الأجرُ بينَكما" (4).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him), the slave of Abi al-Lahm, that he said: My master ordered me to dry some meat. Meanwhile a poor man came, and I fed him some of it. At this my master beat me. I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this to him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) called him and asked: "Why did you beat him?" He said: "He feeds my food to others without my permission." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The reward will be (shared) between the two of you."

(3) تحرَّف في (م) و (ص) إلى: اقدر، والمثبت من (ب).
Note / Clarification: Manuscripts (M) and (S) had "aqdir", which has been corrected according to manuscript (B).
(4) إسناده صحيح. أبو مسلم: هو إبراهيم بن عبد الله بن مسلم الكجّي، والقعنبي: هو عبد الله ابن مسلمة.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Note / Clarification: Abu Muslim is Ibrahim al-Kajji, and al-Qa'nabi is Abd Allah bin Maslamah.
أخرجه مسلم (1025) (83)، والنسائي (2329) عن قُتَيبة بن سعيد، عن حاتم بن إسماعيل، بهذا الإسناد. وأخرجه أحمد 39/ (24009/ 85) عن صفوان بن عيسى، عن يزيد بن أبي عبيد، به.
Reference / Source: Imam Muslim (1025) and al-Nasa'i (2329) recorded it with the chain Qutaybah from Hatim bin Isma'il, and Imam Ahmad (39/ 24009) with the chain Safwan bin Isa from Yazid bin Abi Ubayd.
وأخرجه مسلم (1025) (82)، وابن ماجه (2297)، وابن حبان (3360) من طريق محمد ابن زيد بن المهاجر، عن عمير، بنحوه.
Reference / Source: Imam Muslim, Ibn Majah and Ibn Hibban recorded it via Muhammad bin Zayd from Umayr.
واستدراك الحاكم له ذهول منه.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Hakim's "istidrak" of this hadith (claiming that it meets the conditions of the two Sahihs although they did not include it) is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part, since it is already in Sahih Muslim.
