Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan li-ghayrihi" on the basis of supporting reports, but this particular chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The weakness of this chain is due to Ja'far bin Yahya (who is Ibn Thawban) and his paternal uncle Umarah bin Thawban being "majhul" (of unknown condition).
Note / Clarification: Here Abu Qilabah is "Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad bin Abd Allah al-Raqashi" and Abu Asim is "al-Dahhak bin Makhlad al-Nabil".
Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud (5144) recorded this narration via Muhammad bin al-Muthanna, and Ibn Hibban (4232) via Amr bin al-Dahhak; both of them narrate it from al-Dahhak bin Makhlad with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: It will be mentioned later under hadith number (7481).
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd recorded it in "al-Tabaqat" (1/ 93), al-Husayn bin Harb in "al-Birr wa al-Silah" (80) and Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "Makarim al-Akhlaq" (213) via Yahya bin Sa'id al-Ansari from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir.
Details of the narration: Muhammad bin al-Munkadir says that a woman who had nursed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked permission to see him; when she came in, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My mother, my mother!" and spread out his cloak for her, and she sat on it.
Grading: Its chain is hasan, but it is a "mursal" narration.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd recorded it (1/ 93) via Umar bin Sa'd.
Details of the narration: The narrator says that the foster mother (wet nurse) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him, and he spread out his cloak for her, put his hand into her garments and placed it on her chest.
Grading: Its chain may possibly be graded hasan, but it too is "mursal".
Note / Clarification: The word "zi'r" refers to a woman who nurses a child other than her own (i.e. a foster mother or wet nurse).
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabari narrated in his "Tafsir" (10/ 101) from Qatadah that the foster mother or wet nurse of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who was from Banu Sa'd bin Bakr, came to him on the day of Hunayn and asked him for the captives. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not own them alone; only my own share of them is mine. But come tomorrow when the people are gathered with me and ask then; when I give you my share, the people will also give you theirs." So she came the next day and he spread out a cloth for her; she sat on it and asked, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her his share, and the people, following his example, also gave her their shares.
Grading: All of its narrators are thiqah, but it is "mursal" or "mu'dal".
Note / Clarification: Ibn Abd al-Barr, in the biography of Halimah al-Sa'diyyah in "al-Isti'ab" (p. 883), mentioned in suspended form (ta'liqan) via Zayd bin Aslam from Ata' bin Yasar that Halimah bint Abd Allah (his foster mother) came on the day of Hunayn, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up for her and spread out his cloak, on which she sat.
