ذِكْرُ صَعْصَعَةَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَمِّ الْأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا

حدثنا محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حدثنا أبو زكريا يحيى بن محمد بن يحيى الشَّهيد، حدثنا هُدْبة بن خالد، حدثنا جَرير بن حازم، عن الحسن، عن صَعْصَعة بن معاوية قال: قدمتُ على النبيِّ ﷺ فسمعتُه يقول هذه الآية: ﴿مَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ (7) وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ﴾، فقلت: لا أُبالي أن لا أسمعَ غيرَها، حَسْبي حَسْبي (1). ذكرُ الأحنف بن قيس ﵁-
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'sa'ah bin Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting this verse: "So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it." [Surah al-Zalzalah: 7-8] I said: I do not care to hear anything besides this; it is enough for me, it is enough for me.

(1) إسناده صحيح، وقد صرَّح الحسن -وهو البصري- بسماعه من صعصعة كما سيأتي. وأخرجه أحمد 34/ (20593) عن يزيد بن هارون، و 34/ (20594) عن الأسود بن عامر، والنسائي (11630) من طريق يونس بن محمد، ثلاثتهم عن جرير بن حازم، بهذا الإسناد. وصرَّح الحسن بسماعه من صعصعة في روايتي الأسود ويونس.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Hasan al-Basri explicitly stated that he heard directly from Sa'sa'ah, as will come.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad recorded it 34/(20593) from Yazid bin Harun and 34/(20594) from al-Aswad bin Amir, and Imam al-Nasa'i (11630) via Yunus bin Muhammad; all three narrate it from Jarir bin Hazim with this same chain. In the narrations of al-Aswad and Yunus, al-Hasan al-Basri's hearing from Sa'sa'ah is explicitly stated.
وأخرجه أحمد (20595) عن عفان بن مسلم، عن جرير بن حازم، قال: سمعت الحسن، قال: قدم صعصعةُ المدينةَ، فذكره كالمرسل.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad recorded it (20595) via Affan bin Muslim from Jarir bin Hazim, who said: I heard al-Hasan al-Basri say: "Sa'sa'ah came to Madinah"; in this route the narration is given in a form resembling "mursal".
Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
