Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6665

أخبرني عَبْدانُ بن يزيد الدَّقِيقي بهَمَذان، حدثنا محمد بن المغيرة، حدثنا يحيى بن نَصْر بن حاجِبٍ، حدثنا عبد الله بن شُبرُمَة، عن الشَّعْبِي، عن حُذيفة ابن أَسِيد قال: كان النبي ﷺ يُقرِّب كَبشَينِ أملَحَين، فيذبَحُ أحدَهما فيقول: "اللهمَّ هذا عن محمّدٍ وآل محمّدٍ"، ويُقرِّبُ الآخرَ فيقول: "اللهم هذا عن أُمَّتِي، مَن شَهِدَ لك بالتوحيدِ ولي بالبَلَاغ" (1). ذكرُ عتَّاب بن أَسِيد الأُمَوي (2) ﵁-
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Asid (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would bring forward two black-and-white rams. Slaughtering one of them, he would say: "O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." And bringing forward the other, he would say: "O Allah, this is on behalf of those of my Ummah who have borne witness to Your Oneness and to my having conveyed (the message)."

(1) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد حسن في المتابعات والشواهد من أجل يحيى بن نصر بن حاجب. وأخرجه الطبراني (3059) من طريق محمد بن عاصم الرازي، عن يحيى بن نصر، بهذا الإسناد.
Grading: This narration is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (authentic due to supporting reports), and this chain is "hasan" in corroborations because of Yahya bin Nasr bin Hajib.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani (3059) recorded it through the chain of Muhammad bin 'Asim al-Razi from Yahya bin Nasr, by this same route.
وجاء في الباب ما يشهد له عدة أحاديث، انظر حديث جابر السالف عند المصنف برقم (1734)، وبقية شواهده هناك.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Several supporting hadiths are narrated on this topic; in this regard see the hadith of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that has already passed with the author (al-Hakim) at number (1734); the remaining supporting reports are listed there as well.
(2) وقع في النسخ الخطية مكان "الأموي": الغفاري، وهو خطأٌ يقينًا، والتصويب من "تلخيص الذهبي" ومن نسبه الآتي.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts "al-Ghifari" is written in place of "al-Umawi", which is certainly an error; it has been corrected from Imam al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis" and from the lineage given further on.
Grading: This narration is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (authentic due to supporting reports), and this chain is "hasan" in corroborations because of Yahya bin Nasr bin Hajib.
