Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6650

It is narrated from Khalifah bin Khayyat that: Busr bin Abi Artah died during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). He lived to a great age, until his mind became impaired. His kunyah was Abu Abd al-Rahman. He died in Madinah, and he has a house in Basrah.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Reference / Source: It is thus in "Tabaqat Khalifah" p. 27, while manuscripts (S) and (M) have the words "wa wulida bi-l-Basrah" (he was born in Basrah) and manuscript (B) has "wa waladuhu bi-l-Basrah" (his children are in Basrah).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): What the author mentioned before this, that he died during the caliphate of Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), is also a mistake; for Khalifah bin Khayyat stated explicitly in his "Tabaqat" p. 27 and "Tarikh" p. 292 that he died during the rule of 'Abd al-Malik bin Marwan, and this is the correct view, agreed upon by all.
