It is narrated from al-Hasan al-Basri that Sayyiduna Aqil bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us and married a woman of Banu Jusham bin Sa'd. When he came out after the marriage, the people congratulated him with the prayer of the Days of Ignorance, saying: "May you live in harmony and be blessed with sons." He said: Do not say this, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us to say this and ordered us to say: 'Barakallahu laka wa baraka alayka' (May Allah bless you and send blessing upon you).
Mention of Ma'qil bin Yasar al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Manuscript (B) has the words "min Bani Jusham".
41/ 5. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The portion of the text from "faqala: la taqulu" up to here is missing (dropped) from manuscripts (S) and (B); we have recorded it from manuscript (M). Note / Clarification: The wording after it in brackets was missing from all the manuscripts, and we have completed it from "Mu'jam al-Tabarani al-Kabir" 17 / (515), where it is narrated from Abu 'Ulathah (Muhammad bin 'Amr bin Khalid al-Harrani) with its chain and text. The narration of Shayban bin 'Abd al-Rahman from al-Hasan bin Dinar in Ibn 'Asakir 41/ 5 is also the same.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan", although the chain under consideration is da'if (weak) because of the weakness of al-Hasan bin Dinar, but it has corroboration (mutaba'ah). Technical note / Defect ('illah): It is not established that al-Hasan (that is, al-Hasan bin Abi al-Hasan al-Basri) heard from 'Aqil, but here too he is corroborated. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Imam Ahmad (3/ 1739) narrated this by way of Yunus bin 'Ubayd, and Ibn Majah (1906) and al-Nasa'i (10020) by way of Ash'ath bin 'Abd al-Malik al-Harrani, and both of them (Yunus and Ash'ath) narrate it from al-Hasan al-Basri. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (1738) narrated it by way of Salim bin 'Abd Allah al-Jazari from 'Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin 'Aqil, that 'Aqil got married (the full story). Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narration of 'Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin 'Aqil is accepted in corroborating chains and supporting reports, but he did not meet his grandfather 'Aqil bin Abi Talib, nor did he hear anything from him. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this subject there is also a narration from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) congratulated someone on his marriage he would say: "May Allah bless you, send down blessing upon you, and unite you both in goodness." Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad 14 / (8956), Abu Dawud (2130), Ibn Majah (1905), al-Tirmidhi (1091), al-Nasa'i (10017) and others narrated it, and its chain is strong (qawi). Note / Clarification: "Al-rifa'" (with a kasrah under the ra') means union, affection and agreement.
