It is narrated from Qudamah bin Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Hatib that he said: I saw al-Hajjaj bin Yusuf beating Abbas bin Sahl bin Sa'd during the rule of Sayyiduna Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both). Meanwhile Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared, wearing a waist-wrapper and a yellow cloak. When he drew near, al-Hajjaj signalled that his son should no longer be beaten.
