Grading: Its chain is weak and its text is "munkar". Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Ali bin Zayd (i.e. Ibn Jud'an) is alone in narrating this report, and he is a weak narrator. Reference / Source: Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi narrated it in "Tarikh Baghdad" (1/ 520), and via him Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (31/ 93), via Malik bin Yahya, from Yazid bin Harun, with this same chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Yazid bin Harun stated explicitly: "It is not like this." Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi says the matter is as Yazid said, since Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was too young at the time of the Battle of Badr. Details of the narration: A narration will come later with the author (al-Hakim) at number (6501) from al-Bara' bin 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Badr he and Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) were presented before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he did not permit them because they were too young; then the two of them took part in the Battle of Uhud. And that is a sahih narration. Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari (2664, 4097) and Imam Muslim (1868) transmitted, via Nafi', the narration of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that: Details of the narration: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) inspected him on the day of Uhud, when he was fourteen years old, and did not permit him to fight; then he inspected him on the day of the Trench, when he was fifteen, and then he (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him permission to take part.
