أخبرني أبو بكر بن أبي دارِمٍ الحافظ بالكوفة، حدثنا الحسين بن جعفر القُرَشي،، حدثنا علي بن حَكِيم، حدثنا مالك بن سُعَير بن الخِمْس، حدثنا الأعمش، عن أبي وائل قال: حَجَجْتُ أنا وصاحبٌ لي وابنُ عبّاس على الحجِّ، فجعل يقرأُ سورة النُّور ويفسِّرها، فقال صاحبي: يا سبحانَ الله، ماذا يخرجُ من رأس هذا الرجل؟! لو سَمِعَت هذا التُّركُ لأسلَمَت (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

Abu Wa'il states: I, a companion of mine and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) were on the journey of Hajj. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) kept reciting Surah al-Nur and explaining it. My companion said (in amazement): Subhan Allah! What a spring (of knowledge) is gushing from this man's mind! If the Turks heard this, they would surely accept Islam.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) خبر صحيح، رجاله لا بأس بهم غير شيخ المصنف ابن أبي دارم، فضعيف الحسين بن جعفر: هو ابن حبيب القرشي القتات، قال الدارقطني في "سؤالات الحاكم" (86): صدوق. وذكره الذهبي في "تاريخ الإسلام" 6/ 938. وعلي بن حكيم: هو الأودي.
Grading: This report is sahih; all its narrators are "la ba'sa bihim" (acceptable), except the author's (al-Hakim's) shaykh "Ibn Abi Darim", who is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): al-Husayn bin Ja'far refers to Ibn Habib al-Qurashi al-Qattat, whom al-Daraqutni called "saduq" (truthful) in "Su'alat al-Hakim" (86), and al-Dhahabi mentioned him in "Tarikh al-Islam" (6/ 938); and 'Ali bin Hakim refers to "al-Awdi".
