Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6403

أخبرني محمد بن علي الشَّيباني بالكوفة، حدثنا أحمد بن حازم الغِفَاري، حدثنا أبو نُعيم، حدثنا كامل أبو العلاء قال: سمعت حبيب بن أبي ثابت يُخبِر عن يحيى بن جَعْدة، عن زيد بن أرقم قال: خرجْنا مع رسول الله ﷺ حتى انتَهيْنا إلى غَديرِ خُمٍّ، فأَمَرَ بدَوْحٍ، فكُسِحَ في يومٍ ما أَتى علينا يوم كان أشدَّ حرًّا منه، فحَمِدَ اللهَ وأثنى عليه، وقال: "يا أيها الناسُ، إنه لم يُبعَثْ نبيٌّ قطُّ إِلَّا عاشَ نصفَ ما عاشَ الذي كان قبلَه، وإني أُوشِكُ أن أُدْعَى فأُجيبَ، وإني تاركٌ فيكم ما لن تَضِلُّوا بعدَه: كتابَ الله ﷿"، ثم قام فأَخذ بيد عليٍّ فقال: "يا أيها الناسُ، مَن أَولى بكم من أنفسِكم؟ " قالوا: الله ورسولُه أعلم، قال: "مَن كنتُ مولاهُ فعليٌّ مولاهُ" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه. ذكرُ عبد الله بن عبّاس بن عبد المطَّلب ﵄

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him): We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) until we reached the place of Ghadir Khumm. He (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that a place be cleared under the shade of the trees. It was so intensely hot that day that we had never faced a hotter day than it. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) praised Allah and extolled Him, and said: "O people! No prophet has ever been sent except that he lived half as long as the prophet who came before him. I think that soon I will be called (by my Lord) and I will respond. I am leaving among you something after which you will never go astray, and that is the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, took hold of the hand of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "O people! Who has more right over you than your own selves?" They all said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever I am the mawla (patron) of, Ali is also his mawla."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) حديث صحيح دون قصة عيش كل نبي نصف ما عاش الذي كان قبله، فقد تفرَّد بها في هذا الحديث كامل بن العلاء أبو العلاء، وهو ليس بذاك القوي، وله ما ينكر في بعض رواياته كما قال ابن عدي في "الكامل". أبو نعيم: هو الفضل بن دُكين.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih" except for the story that "every prophet lives half the lifespan of the prophet before him".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Kamil bin al-'Ala' (Abu al-'Ala') is alone in transmitting this part, and he is not such a strong narrator; Ibn 'Adi said in "al-Kamil" that some of his narrations are munkar.
Note / Clarification: Abu Nu'aym refers to "al-Fadl bin Dukayn".
وأخرجه الطبراني (4986) عن علي بن عبد العزيز البغوي، عن أبي نعيم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabarani narrated it (4986) with the chain of 'Ali bin Abd al-'Aziz al-Baghawi from Abu Nu'aym, with this same chain.
وقد سلف حديث زيد بن أرقم هذا بنحوه -دون قصة عيش النبي ﷺ عند المصنف برقم (4627) من طريق سليمان الأعمش عن حبيب بن أبي ثابت عن أبي الطفيل عن زيد. فانظر تمام تخريجه هناك.
Reference / Source: This hadith of Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) (without the story of the lifespan) has already passed with the author (al-Hakim) at number (4627) with the chain of Sulayman al-A'mash from Habib bin Abi Thabit from Abu al-Tufayl; see its complete takhrij there.
ويشهد لحديث كامل أبي العلاء جميعه حديث حذيفة بن أُسيد عند الطبراني (3052)، لكن في إسناده زيد بن الحسن الأنماطي قال فيه أبو حاتم الرازي: منكر الحديث، وضعفه الحافظ ابن حجر في "التقريب".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A shahid for this entire hadith of Kamil Abu al-'Ala' is the hadith of Hudhayfah bin Usayd in al-Tabarani (3052),
Technical note / Defect ('illah): but its chain contains Zayd bin al-Hasan al-Anmati, about whom Abu Hatim al-Razi said "munkar al-hadith", and al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar declared him da'if in "al-Taqrib".
