فحدَّثَني أحمد بن يعقوب الثَّقفي، حدثنا موسى بن زكريا، حدثنا خَليِفة ابن خَيّاط قال: وكانت وفاةُ أَبي محمدٍ عبد الله بن عمرو بن العاص -وأمُّه رائطةُ (2) بنت مُنبِّه بن الحَجّاج بن عامر بن حَذيَم (3) بن سعد بن سَهم- سنةَ خمس وستين، وكان يَخضِبُ بالسواد، وكان عمرو بن العاص أكبرَ من ابنه بثنتَيْ عشرةَ سنة.
Khalifah bin Khayyat states that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) died in the year 65 AH. His mother's name was Ra'itah bint Munabbih. He used to dye his hair with black dye, and Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) was only twelve years older than his son Abdullah.

(2) هكذا في نسخنا الخطية، وفي "طبقات خليفة" ص 26 و 299: رَيْطة، لكن لما ذكرها في النساء ص 335 سماها: رائطة، وقد اختلفت مصادر ترجمته، ففي بعضها: ريطة، وفي الآخر: رائطة.
Manuscript variation: Our manuscripts and Tabaqat Khalifah have 'Raytah', but Khalifah, when mentioning the women, wrote it as 'Ra'itah'. The various sources differ between these two names.
(3) هكذا في نسخنا الخطية، ويغلب على ظننا أنه تحريف والذي في "الطبقات" لخليفة: حُذافة، وكذا نقله عنه ابن عساكر 31/ 242، ويقال: حذيفة بن سعد بن سهم هكذا في "طبقات ابن سعد" 5/ 47 و 82 و 10/ 255، و"جمهرة أنساب العرب" لابن حزم ص 165.
Distortion: The wording of the manuscripts is probably distorted; the correct form is 'Hudhafah', as in Tabaqat Khalifah and Ibn 'Asakir. Ibn Sa'd and Ibn Hazm also mention him under the name 'Hudhayfah bin Sa'd'.
