Al-Walid bin Hisham narrates from his father and grandfather that when Ibn Ziyad reached Syria, the people of Syria, except the people of al-Jabiyah, had already pledged allegiance to Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both). Then Ibn Ziyad, along with the Banu Umayyah present there and their freedmen, pledged allegiance to Marwan bin al-Hakam in the middle of Dhu al-Qa'dah in the year 64 AH, and after him to Khalid bin Yazid bin Mu'awiyah. Then Marwan marched towards al-Dahhak bin Qays, and they met at Marj Rahit, where fighting continued for twenty days. Finally, in Dhu al-Hijjah in the year 64 AH, al-Dahhak bin Qays and his companions were defeated, and in that battle al-Dahhak bin Qays, along with many people of the tribe of Qays, was killed.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts, the conjunction of 'Abu al-Yaqzan' is wrong; in fact Abu al-Yaqzan is the teacher of Khalifah bin Khayyat, so in the chain he should be conjoined with al-Walid bin Hisham. Khalifah bin Khayyat narrated several reports with this chain in his "Tarikh". Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir (57/ 256) narrated it via the route of Ahmad bin 'Imran from Musa bin Zakariyya. (1471). Identification of names: The circumstances of al-Walid bin Hisham and his forefathers have already passed at number (5162). Note / Clarification: Abu al-Yaqzan's name is 'Amir bin Hafs al-Tamimi; he was a well-known expert in genealogy and history, and his nickname was 'Suhaym'.
