حدثني أبو بكر محمد بن أحمد بن بالَوَيهِ، حدثنا إبراهيم بن إسحاق الحَرْبي، حدثنا مُصعبَ بن عبد الله الزُّبيري قال: الضَّحّاك بن قيس بن خالد بن وَهْب بن ثَعلَبة بن وائلةَ بن عمرو بن شَيْبان (5) بن مُحارِب بن فِهْر، وأمُّه أُمَيمة بنت رَبيعة من كِنانةَ، وهي أيضًا أمُّ أخته فاطمة بنت قيس أختِ الضحاك بن قيس، هما لأبٍ وأمٍّ.
Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri states that the lineage of al-Dahhak bin Qays bin Khalid bin Wahb goes back to Fihr bin Malik. His mother, Umaymah bint Rabi'ah, belonged to the tribe of Kinanah. She was also the mother of his sister Fatimah bint Qays; that is, al-Dahhak and Fatimah were full brother and sister.
