Sayyiduna Safwan bin al-Mu'attal al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We set out intending Hajj, and when we reached al-Arj we saw a snake writhing, which died shortly afterwards. A man among us took a cloth out of his bag, wrapped it in it and buried it in the ground. Then, when we reached Makkah and were in the Sacred Mosque, a person came and stood before us and asked: "Which of you is the companion of Amr bin Jabir?" We said: "We do not know Amr bin Jabir." He asked: "Which of you is the companion of the jinn (the snake)?" The people said (pointing to that man): "This is he." He said: "Know that he was the last to die of the nine (jinn) who came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to listen to the Qur'an."
