حَدَّثَنَا علي بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدْل، حَدَّثَنَا إسماعيل بن إسحاق القاضي، حَدَّثَنَا إسماعيل بن أبي أُوَيس، حدثني ابن أبي الزِّناد، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن عُمارة بن عمرو بن حَزْم: أنه قَعَدَ في مجلسٍ فيه أبو هريرة، وفيه مَشْيَخة من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ بضعةَ عشرَ رجلًا، فجعل أبو هريرة يحدِّثُهم عن رسول الله ﷺ، يُنكِره بعضُهم ويَعرِفه البعضُ، حتَّى فعل ذلك مِرارًا، فعرفتُ يومئذٍ أن أبا هريرة أحفظُ الناسِ عن رسول الله ﷺ (4).
It is narrated from Muhammad bin Umarah bin Amr bin Hazm that he sat in a gathering in which Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) was present, and more than ten elderly men from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were also seated there. Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) began narrating to them the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); some of those Companions would not recognise a hadith and some would recognise it, until he had done this several times. On that day I came to know that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) was the person with the best memory of the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

(4) إسناده حسن من أجل إسماعيل بن أبي أويس وشيخه ابن أبي الزناد: وهو عبد الرحمن بن أبي الزناد. وأخرجه البخاري في "التاريخ الكبير" 1/ 186 - 187، وابن عساكر 67/ 339 من طريق إسماعيل بن أبي أويس، بهذا الإسناد.
Grading: This chain is "hasan" because of Isma'il bin Abi Uways and his shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad.
