Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6293

Al-Fadl bin al-Hasan bin Amr bin Umayyah al-Damri narrates from his father, who said: I narrated a hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and he denied it. I said: "I heard it from you yourself." He said: "If you heard it from me, then it will be written down with me." Then he took me by the hand to his house and showed me some of his books containing the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he found that hadith. He said: "I told you that if I had narrated this hadith to you, then it would be written down with me."

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This is a "munkar" report and its chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hasan bin 'Amr is "majhul", and Ibn Lahi'ah ('Abd Allah) is weak because of poor memory. 'Allamah al-Dhahabi says that this is a munkar narration that is not established.
Reference / Source: It is in "Musnad Ibn Wahb" (137) in the narration of Abu al-'Abbas al-Asamm.
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Abd al-Barr narrated it in "Jami' Bayan al-'Ilm wa Fadlih" (422) through the chain of Sahnun from Ibn Wahb.
Important point: What is correct about Abu Hurayrah is that he did not write down hadiths (at first), as in his own statement in al-Bukhari (113): "None of the Companions has more hadiths than me except 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr, for he used to write and I did not write."
