(1). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "Abu Hurayrah narrates a great many hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "I seek refuge for you with Allah from falling into any doubt about what he brings (from the Prophet). The truth is that he was bold (in narrating) and we were hesitant."

Grading: All its narrators are thiqah. Technical note / Defect ('illah): According to 'Allamah al-Mu'allimi al-Yamani, the mention of Hudhayfah in this chain is most likely an error, since Abu Wa'il's hearing from 'Abd Allah bin 'Umar is established. Identification of names: Muhammad bin Ayyub is Ibn al-Durays, and Jarir is Ibn 'Abd al-Hamid. Details of the narration: The author (al-Hakim) is alone in narrating this report with this particular chain. Part of it concerns lying down after the two sunnah rak'ahs of Fajr, about which Ibn 'Umar said: "Abu Hurayrah has taken too much upon himself." Important point: When Ibn 'Umar was asked whether he rejected anything he said, he replied: "No, but he was bold (in narrating) and we were timid (cautious)." (Abu Dawud: 1261, Ibn Hibban: 2468).
