حَدَّثَنَا علي بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدْل، حَدَّثَنَا الحسن بن علي بن شَبِيب المَعمَري، حَدَّثَنَا عبد الرحمن (2) بن صالح الأَزْدي، حَدَّثَنَا خالد بن سعيد بن عمرو بن سعيد بن العاص، عن أبيه، عن عائشة: أنها دَعَتْ أبا هريرة فقالت له: يا أبا هريرةَ، ما هذه الأحاديثُ التي تَبلُغُنا أنك تحدِّث بها عن النَّبِيِّ ﷺ؟ هل سمعتَ إِلَّا ما سَمِعْنا، وهل رأيتَ إلَّا ما رأَيْنا؟ قال: يا أُمَّاه، إنه كان يَشغلُكِ عن رسول الله ﷺ المِرآةُ والمُكحُلَةُ والتصنُّعُ لرسول الله ﷺ، وإني واللهِ ما كان يَشغَلُني عنه شيء (3).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

Khalid bin Sa'id bin Amr bin Sa'id bin al-As narrates from his father, and he from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that she sent for Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him: "O Abu Hurayrah! What are these hadiths that we learn you narrate from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? Have you heard anything other than what we heard, and have you seen anything other than what we saw?" He said: "O mother! The mirror, the kohl container and adorning yourself for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also kept you occupied (away from spending more time) with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (because of which you may not have come to know of many of his sayings and actions), whereas, by Allah, nothing kept me occupied away from his (peace and blessings be upon him) company."
This hadith is sahih al-isnad (authentic in its chain), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscript (B) the name has been corrupted to "'Abd Allah".
(3) إسناده حسن من أجل عبد الرحمن الأزدي وشيخه خالد بن سعيد. وأخرجه بنحوه ابن سعد في "الطبقات" 2/ 314 و 5/ 239 - ومن طريقه ابن عساكر 67/ 353 - من طريقين عن عمرو بن يحيى بن سعيد الأُموي، عن جدِّه سعيد بن عمرو بن سعيد بن العاص، وعمرو ثقة.
Grading: This chain is "hasan" because of 'Abd al-Rahman al-Azdi and his shaykh Khalid bin Sa'id.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it in "al-Tabaqat" (2/ 314), and Ibn 'Asakir, through the route of 'Amr bin Yahya al-Umawi; and 'Amr is a thiqah narrator.
وأخرجه كذلك ابن عساكر 67/ 353 من طريق إسحاق بن سعيد بن عمرو، عن أبيه.
