It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "In the Days of Ignorance my name was Abd Shams bin Sakhr; then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) named me Abd al-Rahman."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
(6265). Grading: This chain is weak because the narrator between Ibn Ishaq and Abu Hurayrah is mubham. Note / Clarification: It is part of the author's earlier narration (6265). Grading: This chain is hasan, and it is the most reliable statement about Abu Hurayrah's name (Abd Shams). Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari narrated it in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (6/ 132), and al-Dulabi in "al-Kuna" (354 and 1062), with this chain.
