Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6266

حدثني محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حَدَّثَنَا الفضل بن محمد، حَدَّثَنَا إبراهيم بن المنذر الحِزَامي، حَدَّثَنَا سفيان بن حمزة الأسلَميّ، عن كَثير بن زيد، عن الوليد ابن رَبَاح، عن أبي هريرة قال: كان رسول الله ﷺ يَدعُوني أبا هرٍّ، ويَدعُوني الناسُ أبا هُريرة (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to call me "Abu Hirr", whereas people in general used to call me "Abu Hurayrah".

Grading: In corroborations and supporting reports this chain is hasan because of Kathir bin Zayd al-Aslami.
Identification of names: Al-Fadl bin Muhammad is Ibn al-Musayyab al-Sha'rani.
وأخرجه ابن عساكر 67/ 313 من طريقين عن سفيان بن حمزة، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Asakir (67/ 313) narrated it via two routes from Sufyan bin Hamzah, with this chain.

وقد ثبت عن النَّبِيّ ﷺ في غير ما حديث أنه ناداه بأبي هرٍّ، انظر "صحيح البخاري" (285) و (5375) و (6246).
Important point: It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in several hadiths that he addressed him as "Abu Hirr" (the one with the cat); see Sahih al-Bukhari (285, 5375, 6246).
