حدثني علي بن عيسى، حَدَّثَنَا الحسين بن محمد القَبّاني وإبراهيم بن أبي طالب قالا: حَدَّثَنَا عِمرانُ بن موسى القزَّاز، حَدَّثَنَا عبد الوارث بن سعيد، حَدَّثَنَا محمد بن جُحَادة، عن نُعيم بن أبي هند، عن أبي حازم، عن حُسين بن خارجةَ قال: لما جاءت الفتنةُ الأُولى أَشكلَتْ عليَّ، فقلت: اللهمَّ أرِني من الحق أمرًا أتمسَّكُ به، فأُرِيتُ فيما يَرى النائمُ الدنيا والآخرة، وكان بينهما حائطٌ غيرُ طويل، وإذا أنا تحتَه، فقلت: لو تسلَّقتُ هذا الحائط حتَّى أنظرَ إلى قتلى أشجَعَ فيُخبِروني، قال: فانهبَطتُ بأرضٍ ذاتِ شجر، فإذا بنفرٍ جلوسٍ، فقلت: أنتم الشهداءُ؟ قالوا: نحن الملائكة، قلت: فأين الشهداءُ؟ قالوا: تقدَّم إلى الدَّرَجات، فارتفعتُ درجةً، الله أعلمُ بها من الحُسْن والسَّعَة، فإذا أنا بمحمدٍ ﷺ، وإذا إبراهيمُ شيخٌ، وإذا هو يقول لإبراهيم: استغفِرْ لأمَّتي، وإبراهيم يقول: إنك لا تدري ما أحدَثُوا بعدك، أَهراقوا دماءَهم، وقتلوا إمَامَهم، فهَلَّا فعلوا كما فعل سعدٌ خليلي! فقلت: والله لقد رأيتُ رُؤْيا لعلَّ الله ينفعُني بها، أذهبُ فأَنظرُ مكانَ سعدٍ فأكونُ معه. فأتيتُ سعدًا فقَصَصتُ عليه القصة، قال: فما أكثرَ بها فَرَحًا، وقال: لقد خابَ من لم يكن إبراهيمُ خليلَه، قلت: مع أيِّ الطائفتينِ أنت؟ قال: ما أنا مع واحدةٍ منهما، قال: قلت: فما تأمرُني؟ قال: ألك غنمٌ؟ قلت: لا، قال: فاشتَرِ شاءً (1) فكن فيها حتَّى تَنجَليَ (2). أخبرنا الشيخ أبو بكر محمد بن عبد العزيز بن أحمد بن محمد بن شاذانَ الجَوهَري ﵀ بقِراءتي عليه سنةَ تسعٍ وأربعين وأربع مئة، قال: أنبأَني الحاكمُ الإمام أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله بن محمد بن حَمدَوَيهِ الحافظُ ﵁، قال: ذكرُ الأَرقَم بن أبي الأَرقَم المخزومي ﵁ -

It is narrated from Husayn bin Kharijah that he said: When the first tribulation (after the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him) broke out, it became confusing for me, so I supplicated: O Allah, show me the path of truth to which I may hold firmly. Then I was shown, in a dream, this world and the Hereafter, and between them there was a small wall, and I was standing in the shade of that wall. I thought: If I climb this wall, I will be able to see the slain of (the tribe of) Ashja' who perished (in the tribulation), so that they may tell me the reality of the matter. The narrator says: Then I descended onto a land with trees, where some people were sitting. I asked: Are you the martyrs? They replied: We are the angels. I asked: Where are the martyrs? They said: Go forward towards those ranks. So I ascended to a rank that was unmatched in beauty and spaciousness, and there I saw Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was present in the form of an elderly man. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying to Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him): "Seek forgiveness for my Ummah." Ibrahim (peace be upon him) replied: "You do not know what tribulations they stirred up after you; they shed one another's blood and killed their Imam. If only they had done as my friend Sa'd did!" I thought: I have seen a dream by which Allah will benefit me; I will go to Sayyiduna Sa'd (bin Abi Waqqas) and stay with him. So I came to Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) and told him the whole story. He was very pleased on hearing this dream and said: "Whoever does not have Ibrahim (peace be upon him) as his friend has indeed failed." I asked: Which of the two groups are you with? He said: "I am not with either of them." I asked: Then what do you command me to do? He asked: "Do you have any goats?" I said: No. He said: "Then buy some goats and stay among them until this tribulation is over."

(1) في نسخنا الخطية: شيا، والجادة ما أثبتناه، وهو جمع: شاةٍ.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The manuscripts have "shiya", while the correct form is "shiyah" (with a final ha'), the plural of "shah" (goat).
(2) إسناده محتمل للتحسين من أجل حسين بن خارجة، فقد تفرَّد بالرواية عنه أبو حازم سلمان الأشجعي، وهو تابعيّ كبير ذكره الحافظ ابن حجر في القسم الثالث من "الإصابة" 2/ 172، وهم الذين لهم إدراك للنبي ﷺ ولو لم يروه، وذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات" 4/ 155، وباقي رجال الإسناد ثقات.
Grading: This chain can possibly be graded hasan because of Husayn bin Kharijah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Only Abu Hazim Salman al-Ashja'i narrated from him. Husayn is a senior tabi'i whom al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar listed in the third category of "al-Isabah" (2/ 172), namely those who lived in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) even if they did not see him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat" (4/ 155). All the remaining narrators are thiqah.
وأخرجه ابن عساكر 20/ 372 من طريق أبي معمر عبد الله بن عمرو المقعَد، عن عبد الوارث بن سعيد بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Asakir (20/ 372) narrated it via Abu Ma'mar Abd Allah bin Amr al-Muq'ad, from Abd al-Warith bin Sa'id.

وأخرجه عمر بن شبة في "تاريخ المدينة" 4/ 1252، وابن أبي الدنيا في "المنامات" (172)، وابن عبد الباقي في "التمهيد" 19/ 222 من طريقين عن محمد بن جحادة، به.
Reference / Source: Umar bin Shabbah narrated it in "Tarikh al-Madinah" (4/ 1252), Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-Manamat" (172), and Ibn Abd al-Baqi in "al-Tamhid" (19/ 222), via two routes from Muhammad bin Juhadah.
وأخرجه ابن شبة 4/ 1251، وابن عساكر 20/ 372 - 373 من طريق فايد بن ناجية، عن نعيم بن أبي هند، به.

تنبيهٌ: وقع في حاشية (ز) هنا ما يفيد أنَّ هذا الخبر آخر ما أملاه الحاكم من كتابه هذا على أصحابه إملاءً، ونص الحاشية: حكاية ما على الأصل: إلى هنا انتهى الإملاء ولم يقع السماع لما بعده إلى تمام الكتاب … ثم توفي الحاكم ﵁ بعد … سنة خمس وأربع مئة، آخر الجزء السابع والعشرين.
