It is narrated from Qays bin Abi Hazim that he said: I heard Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for me: 'Allahumma istajib lahu idha da'aka' (O Allah, answer his supplication when he calls upon You).
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its narrators are on the whole thiqah, but there is disagreement over whether it is mawsul (with a connected chain) or mursal (with a broken chain). (6990). Reference / Source: Ja'far bin Awn narrated it as mawsul, as with the author, al-Tirmidhi (3751) and Ibn Hibban (6990). Grading: Musa bin Uqbah corroborated him from Isma'il bin Abi Khalid, as will come with the author at number (6242), though the route to him is weak. But Yazid bin Harun (with Ibn Sa'd in "al-Tabaqat" 3/ 132) and Yahya al-Qattan (with Ahmad in "Fada'il al-Sahabah" 1308) narrated it as mursal from Isma'il, from Qays, who said: "I was informed that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sa'd …" Important point: Since Qays bin Abi Hazim is a senior mukhadram tabi'i, he generally narrates only from Companions (which lessens the severity of the irsal). Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani (318) narrated via Mujalid bin Sa'id that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of Badr: "O Allah, answer Sa'd's prayer." Grading: This chain is weak because of Mujalid's weakness. Grading: The chain of that narration is very weak. Details of the narration: The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) supplication for his father (Sa'd), that his prayers be answered, has already passed at number (4360), via A'ishah bint Sa'd. Reference / Source: Al-Daraqutni mentioned in "al-'Ilal" (640) that several narrators narrated it via Isma'il from Qays as mursal, and said that this (the mursal version) is the mahfuz one.
